WEEK 15 WRAP

U19s all dominant as Ones fall

July 30, 2022

More mixed fortunes for the Red 'n' Blacks, as the home and away season ended for the Menages and Crocs.

Seniors

Collegians 6.9-45 d Old Xavs 5.12-42

Goal Kickers: J. Ayton-Delaney, C. MacIsaac, A. Vandenberg, W. Hams, J. Hewitt

Best Players: F. Pearce, J. Soccio, C. MacIsaac, M. Stavrou, D. Symeopoulos, J. Ayton-Delaney

Fraser Pearce turned in a fine effort on the ground where he made his senior debut in 2016. Ben Bilson-McGillen debuted and showed poise that some of his teammates seemed to lack. Old Xavs, the team that tried to win, very nearly did, but were thwarted by the Lions whose real efforts to score rather than to stop happened in just their two quarters with the wind at their backs.

Xavs looked to be in business when they hit the front late in the piece. Full of run and using the ball better than they had done all afternoon, they had a purple patch that ended only with the final sire , when the ball was seven metres away from an improbable win. Importantly, however, collegians had briefly stopped the Red and Black dominance with one forward thrust where it all went right for them. It ended with the goal that put them back in front, and back into the four.

With a quartet of games to go, Xavs are fifth, but far from out of it because of a strong percentage. Four teams are chasing three spots. Here's the forward look:

Reserves

A slow start, but, in the end, a solid win for the Magoos. Will Goss and James Dalbosco were the most prominent, though Ed Ralph caught the eye again. Handley and Bell headed the goal kickers.

Goal Kickers: M. Handley 3, H. Bell 2, C. Knott, T. Simmons, T. Gilbert, T. Amad, C. Holmes, L. Soccio

Best Players: W. Goss, J. Dalbosco, E. Ralph, T. Amad, B. Scala, H. Bell

WOX 1

Another show of grit from the WOX. In a tough comp under trying circumstances, the girls have always had a crack this year.

WOX 2

Just seventeen took the field, and what a great effort from all of them, holding the margin to a slice over three goals.

U19 Premier

Another power win for Dan's Dynamos. Dec Fitzgerald, Will Stevens and Ted 'Senator' Kennedy booted three apiece as the X-Men warmed up for next week's opener at Toorak Park.

Old Xaverians 15.22-11 d Old Melburnians 3.2-20

U19 Threes

A big take-down of the team in second spot. Still a very tight race, but on form, the Red'n' Blacks seem destined to land in third or fourth spot when the music stops. From there, it's a brand new ballgame.

a 100 point win over the Cardinals. We'll take that.

A solid win at Como to keep the season humming.
