Marcus medals again

Marcus Stavrou has won the Bowen Ralph Medal for Best and Fairest in the seniors.

In a close count, the co-captain edged Alex Trigar and Charlie Knott to become a four-time winner, having previously saluted in 2021, 2022, and 2023.

Stavrou joins Michael Blood with four B+F awards, and will now set out after three others who won the B+F even more times. They are:

·     Mitch McKenzie, who won B+F six times in a row 1968-73;

·     John Noonan, who won five times in 1975, and ’77-’80, and;

·     Frank Higginbotham (dec), perhaps the greatest (and certainly the most decorated) of our pre-WWII players, who won it five times consecutively in 1933-’37.

The senior Best and Fairest award was renamed last year to honour the contributions of the Ralph and Bowen families, which date back more than 70 years.

Defender Tommy Dunne took fourth place.
