BEWY TALKS TEN

Comfortably his PB.

Old Xavs star Rohan Bewick has discussed his superb 10-goal performance against St Bernards in the opening round of Premier Men’s action on the weekend.

Bewick, who joined the Xavs in 2019 after a 103-game AFL career with the Brisbane Lions, told Nick Hulett on the latest episode of the Hoorick Hoorah podcast that it’s the most he’s ever kicked in a game, at any level.

“That is comfortably my PB. I think my best previously was six, and that was probably when I was 19,” Bewick said.

“Before that, I think four was my best… but ten, comfortably the best. But most importantly, a good start, and a win.”

Bewick started the game in incredible form booting five in the visitors’ eight-goal-to-nil first term.

“I was thinking, I’ve got five already. I’ve got a few lucky ones, two cheap ones, a free kick out on the full, I don’t even know if it was there. I got handballed one in the goal square, and I was like, I’ve used up a bit of luck already. I’m probably going to finish the game on about five or six, and I went in at half time with six.

“Then I was kind of thinking about it a little bit, managed to get three more in the third quarter, and then in the last quarter Iwas looking for it.”

Deep into the last quarter a beautiful pass from captain Marcus Stavrou found a leading Bewick, and from a tight angle against the wind, he sealed the Xavs’ 17.6 (108) to 11.10 (76) victory with his tenth goal.
