High-flying Seniors hit first
It is with great sadness that we learned this week of the passing of Old Xavs star of the late 1950s, Terry Callan.
After leaving Xavier, Terry played at Geelong Amateurs and the Old Xaverians. He won the Red 'n' Blacks' Best and Fairest in 1958. He drew the attention of scouts at the Geelong Football Club and made his League debut in 1960. The following season, Terry established himself as a regular and played for Victoria.
In 1963, Terry played 17 games but missed the Cats' premiership after undergoing knee surgery.
Callan returned in 1964 but played just three more VFL games before taking on prominent off-field roles with the Cats.
More recently, Terry's son Antony played with the Old Xavs and ensured the Callans' place in Xavs' folklore when he won the club's Best and Fairest in 1990. Terry and Ant are the only father-son B+F recipients in the club's history.
Our condolences are with the Callan family and Terry's numerous friends.
Requiescat in Pace.
