We are saddened to learn of the recent passing of Peter Slattery, a former club captain and Big V Champion. Peter had just turned 87.
Slattery played 131 games for the Red 'n' Blacks from 1958 to 1965, usually at CHB, though occasionally rucked when required. It was in that position as a follower that he found a place in the VAFA Representative team. He was skipper of the 1963 and 1965 Big V team, and an All-Australia Amateur in both 1962 and 1965. He was Old Xaverians' first Big V Champion, an honour accorded him in 2011.

The big fellow won the Xavs' Best and Fairest in 1962, and was captain of Porky Rhoden's 1964 team which played in the club's first A Section Grand Final. Unfortunately, Slattery could not play in the decider because he had contracted glandular fever.
Our sincere condolences to his wife Masha, his children Jodi, Sean, and Mark; his step-children Kalissa, Luke, Andrei, Nick, Kate; and to his many grandchildren.
Requiescat in Pace.
