The following year, he commenced Medicine at Melbourne Uni in 1948 and specialised in Rheumatology. He  founded the department at St Vincent’s.

In 1983, Dr Webb joined the Xavier College Foundation and was its president from 1985 to 1990 .

He also served on the XC Council from 1990 to 1998.

A Xavier scholarship is awarded in his name annually to a Year 11 student with an interest in pursuing medicine, pharmacy or dentistry.

His wife Patricia was President of the Xavier Ladies Committee in 1982.

John was a strong supporter and long-time financial member of the OXFC. He  regularly attended home games at Toorak Park.
