Ouch: Kevs cruise despite brave resistance

May 16, 2021

It was a tough day on the Chapel Oval for our intrepid WOX.

WOX 1

Gowans' Girls ran into some quality opposition and while the endeavour was there, the visiting St Kevin's was too strong. A first quarter goal from Sarah Anderson and a strong defensive effort offered early hope, but beyond the first break, scoring was tough for the home team. Kevs scored at two goals a quarter, and holding a quality outfit like the Tricolours to that was a feather in the WOX cap.

Sarah Anderson, Sophia Rothfield and Gabby Henderson continued in fine form for the WOX, who are outside the four on percentage. Abbey Harangozo, Tina Chokbengboun and Georgia Wilson were also stong contributors in a team that never gave up. Next week, a chance to jump back in with a clash with West Brunswick.

WOX 2

No joy for the Reserves this week as the Kevins smacked the WOX, who were again short on numbers. Injuries and unavailabilities are taking their toll, but the Red 'n' Blacks remain enthusiastic.

Rianna Percy was best for Paul Newton's team, well supported by Samara Eeles, Rach Cox, Eliza Forrest and Bella Villani. Christina Sgarbossa, who will next week become the first WOX to reach 50 games, was also a stand-out. She will play her milestone game against third-placed West Brunswick, and a victory should mean that the WOX jump back into the four.
