Daniel Noonan will captain the Old Xaverians in 2017, reigniting a red and black family tradition.

His father John was a five-time Best and Fairest player at our club and captain in three premiership teams, including the Claret and Stout's breakthrough A Section flag in 1981.

The new skipper will this year wear the number 3, the same guernsey worn by his famed father.

Dan has played three seasons with the Red 'n' Blacks, bookending a successful stint with Port Melbourne in the VAFA, where he represented the VFL in a representative game.

Noonan, vice-captain last season, won his second premiership with the Old Xavs, anchoring a defence that featured Nick Wynne and Tim Dynon.

Vice-captains for 2017 are utility Ben Kennedy and last season's skipper John Shaw, who has delayed plans to work overseas.

We congratulate the trio and wish them all the best for a fruitful season.
