CLUB PAYS TRIBUTE TO FOUR GREATS

Saturday’s pre-game luncheon at Toorak Park was packed as the Old Xavs paid tribute to four recently-retired stars.

The quartet in focus consisted of Tomi Johnston, Sam Lees, Jake Williams and Nick Wynne.

Former club captain Michael Darvell spoke of the achievements of these champions, all of whom were premiership players.

Tomi Johnston #34

  • 54 games 2016-2018

  • 23 Goals

  • Senior Premiership Player 2016

  • Senior Best and Fairest 2016, 2017, 2018

  • Tomi was one of the three Johnston brothers to play in 2016 Band of Brothers premiership team (2 x Anderson, 2 x Margin, 2 x Beetham)


Sam Lees #40

  • 100 games 2009-2017

  • 27 goals

  • Senior Premiership Player 2013

  • Reserves Premiership Player 2017

  • Missed most of 2014, and all of 2015 and 2016 with injury, but gave plenty every time he took the field.


Jake Williams #1

  • 86 games 2007, 2011-2018

  • 122 goals

  • Senior Premiership Player 2013

  • With Brendan Goss and Matthew Handley, formed the Triumvirate of Terror in 2013, booting 165 goals between them. 


Nick Wynne #26

  • 143 games 2009-2017

  • 37 goals

  • Senior Premiership Player 2009, 2010, 2013, 2016

  • Senior Best and Fairest 2009

  • Big V Representative 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014

  • VAFA Ireland Tour 2011 (with Ryan Colbert)

  • Named at CHB in Jon Anderson Herald Sun VAFA Best team of half century 1967-2017 (along with fellow Xavs Nick Burne, Michael Blood, Tim Ockleshaw and Simon Wood)
