Xavs Beat the Boys from Brindisi
After a slow start down at the difficult to play Brindisi Oval the Xavs turned up the heat and showed some of their best form for the season. It’s not an easy task taking away the 4 points when you play St Bedes / Mentone away. In their 21 games in A Grade they have lost just the 3 times. A 38 point lead at 3 quarter time proved too much for the home side and although they threw everything at our boys we defended well and came away with a well deserved win.
There were no surprises in the other Premier Section games. Old Scotch’s terrible start to the season continued, going down to OM’s by 10 goals. The boys from Junction Oval have carried on their good from last year and with a couple of their new recruits firing, they will be a side to watch later in the season. De La smashed Marcellin by 25 goals out at Bulleen and Uni had a comfortable 12 goal victory over Old Trinity. Collegians remain the only undefeated side thanks to their win over the boys from Brighton.
All signs point towards yet another epic battle between Xavs and Uni this Saturday at Toorak Park. The Presidents Lunch kicks off at midday, and you can contact Rodney Calhaem for bookings – rodney@australianimmigration.com.au
It wasn’t such great news for the reserves who had their first loss for the year after leading for much of the game. This leaves them sitting in second spot, and facing a top of the table clash against Uni this week. The Thirds led from post to post on Saturday and remain undefeated, and the Crocs had the week off but I hear were put through their paces with a 2 hour match simulation training session!
Our Under 19 Premier side had a big win over the St Bedes / Mentone Tigers with Brendan Goss and Pat Ambrose kicking 5 and 4 goals respectively. Tristan Parker was again dominant and Daniel Harangozo continues his fine form in the middle. The Unders 2’s had another good win, this time over Beaumaris and remain in second spot.
