BACK IN THE WINNERS CIRCLE
Coming off 2 losses in a row the unders were very keen to get back on the winners list. OM's had put some good results together over the last few weeks and with it being our last home game nothing but 4 points would do. Right from the start it was clear that the Xavs had come to play, with the first quarter being one of the best we have produced all year. Vice-Captain Dan Harangozo was a welcome return as he set about getting the first use out of the middle, and youngsters Toby Plant and Charlie Woodley were creating havoc across half forward. Our run from half back was quick and direct as we put together a 9 goal to 0 quarter time lead. Things levelled out from here as we worked hard into the wind in the second term Ben Plant was marking everything across half back and directing traffic, while Dan Curtain showed how much he has been missed for the last 6 weeks with a best on ground performance. He patrolled the centre corridor and set up countless attacks with his vision and composure. At half time the lead was 8 goals.
We have been looking to put together a solid 4-quarter effort for a while now and signs were good throughout the 3rd quarter. Tristan Parker moved from forward to back to the midfield to show his versatility and willingness to do a job for the team. His continued hard running has been a headache for oppositions all year and he looks set for a big finish. Our forward pressure was a really pleasing aspect of our performance and this was lead by Jack O'Sullivan. He threw his body into the contest, laid tackles and got dangerous in front of goal, kicking a couple and setting up another 2. He is one who has continued to improve his form the more footy he has played this year.
In the end we ran out 62-point winners and the confidence within the group was well and truly back. We now find ourselves 6 points in the four with two crunch games against Scotch (2nd) and Beaumaris (3rd) to come. It is a very even competition and the next two weeks will obviously determine where we fit in. With a large number of injuries having hit the squad over the last month, there are positive signs with blokes starting to get their fitness back. It would be great to see a big crowd 2pm at Camberwell Sports Ground this week as we take on old rivals Scotch in a big game.
