A strong Under 19 2’s side took the park for the last round of the year against the 5th placed Peninsula. Being 1 all from past matches, a competitive hit out was truly in order for the budding young stars.

The men in red and black hit the ground running slamming on 5 goals in quick succession due to first use of the ball in the middle and swift movement thru the wings and flanks to our tall timber and hoovering crumbers in the forward line. Crock began well in the ruck and Matty Vlahos at his menacing best in the forward line. 6 goals to 1 at quarter time was a fair reflection of the first quarter.

We dropped our guard thru fazes of the second quarter but still managed to negate Peninsulas best with Darrer’s aerial supremacy and Woodley’s sublime skills and pace being the highlights. We went into the break with a 8 goal lead but were urged to go on with the job and set up a huge victory and confidence booster.

The third quarter started in great fashion and we put the game beyond doubt within minutes. The back 6 again proved to be near unbreakable with pocket rocket Dutchy Holland dominating from the back with great run and support from Roges & Robbie Ralph. The forward line looked potent also with twin towers Don & Macca causing headaches with the aerial ball entering. As the game began to lose its sting, the quarter tapered out but we went into orange time with an unassailable lead.

The last term was a tight affair but the Xavs had already put the cue in the rack and had there stars on ice looking towards next week. It’s a great achievement for the boys to make the finals series this year, and a commanding win against a good team was a perfect platform into the serious stuff.
