On the back of a flat week in which we succumbed to the ladder leaders, we relished our chance for redemption against the boys from Old Melbourne High.  With the effects of school holidays kicking in, we had a depleted list to choose from, however our depth was still strong and it gave a few blokes a chance to step up. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

With our 2 vice captains out with injury, we put Dils, Pittito & McLure into leadership roles and the boys joined Lob in organizing the warmup.  Nevertheless, we started a bit flat in what has become a worrying trend however thanks to some good pressure in the backline and straight kicking we went into the first break a few goals clear.

Our second quarter was similar, but again we managed to extend the lead.  Guys like Galbraith, Cleeve, Ridolfi & Burne looked to be thoroughly enjoying their opportunities while playing their best games this year.  Cleeveys toughness around the ball was a big bonus and something we could have had more last week.

So with a comfortable but unconvincing lead at half time, we decided to put the afterburners on in the third quarter and a quick fire 6 goals put the game beyond doubt.  In what was cold and miserable conditions I thought we played pretty good wet weather footy and did a lot of things right.  We continued on in the last quarter and got away with a comfortable 11 goal win.

With our players out we had lost a bit of structure, but needed blokes to step up and fill different roles.  Dils continued to impress in the ruck and enjoyed his time at centre half forward & Matty Vlahos loved his opportunity to rule the forward line and slotted a lazy 4.  Ralphy looked a new man playing as the general in the middle as he burst through the packs and was ably supported by McLure, Hasan & Curtis.  Moving forward we still need to improve our accountability and respect we pay to the opposition, as we got away with it a bit on the weekend but Oakleigh showed us last week that we won’t get away with it against them.
