REMAIN UNBEATEN
In our biggest test to date, against a quality opposition, the Ménages posted their best win for the season in a top of the table clash against a previously unbeaten and gallant De La Salle.
Again this week the side took on a different look on paper, with 9 changes from last week’s rampaging win against Marcellin.
It became obvious very early in the game that the blustery Stradbroke Park wind would be a factor all day and would test the field kicking and skill levels of both sides.
But in the first quarter and from the first bounce, the Ménages showed they were on and adapted to the conditions brilliantly with quick clearances from the centre, slick ball movement and hard running. The boys clearly played their best quarter of football so far this season to lead 34 to 0 at quarter time.
Playing his first game for the season, James Ulbrick led the way in the ruck and in a best on ground performance showed a great example to all Ménage players striving for a place in this side how important it is to take your chances when you get them. Tom Rowse, another playing his first game, put in a solid performance at centre half back too.
To their credit, De La Salle regrouped at quarter time, got their running game together and fought out what was then a very even contest. They in fact outscored the Ménages by 1 point over the last 3 quarters.
Matt Altis, as acting captain for the day, played his best game for the season, Matt Romanin was dominant all day and Jack Sleeman is consistently building his reputation as a very reliable defender - again taking away the new and coveted "padlock" award for the second week in a row.
