3 in a Row
In clearly their best performance for season 2010, the Ménages simply outran and outclassed a confident Marcellin at Marcellin College on Saturday, to be now top of the table after Round 3.
With 11 changes in the side from the previous week due to player promotions to the 2’s, rotations and a couple of injuries, the victory proved the depth of the club’s talent pool with an emphatic victory.
Coming into the match, Marcellin, a somewhat unknown quantity to the competition, had posted a 33 goal score line the previous week against Old Brighton, and so the Ménages needed to be on their game from the first bounce. And we were.
Led brilliantly all day by James Morton in the ruck and ably supported in the engine room by Trovato, Torre and Purcell, the Ménages played a running, unselfish and disciplined brand of football.
The backline was again solid with Grigg, McDonnell, Trahair and Sleeman unbeaten all day and with the opportunities created by the onballers and the centreline led by Mudge and Dipierdomenico, the forward line proved effective and versatile with 11 individual goal kickers for the day.
It was a great 4 quarter effort by this team and the first three weeks have provided a nice foundation from which Season 2010 can take shape. The challenge lies ahead of the Ménages, who meet a quality opposition in De La Salle this week. The top of the table clash will see whether this group can back up two wins against terrible opposition with a solid performance against De La. There is no room for complacency at any level of footy, and the Premier Thirds is no exception. We enjoy being hunted and challenged by opposition sides and look forward to this week’s game.
