SNATCH VICTORY LATE
25 scoring shots (plus a few on the fulls!) to 13 was the tally, but the scoreboard showed only a 17 point win for the seniors.
The back 6 continued their very solid form right from the outset with Rogerson and Noonan clearly the best in the first quarter. Rush looked dangerous forward but missed some set shots that he would usually gobble up. Brighton to their credit were accountable and hard and it showed on the scoreboard with OB leading at the first 2 changes.
A half time spray from the coach and a moving and motivational plea from Assitant Coach Vasdekis saw the endeavour and intensity lift in the third quarter. Wynne and Colbert were the architects of the revival with tough ball winning through the middle. The team leaders too in Ball, Biddlecombe, Darvell and Agius all increased their intensity and output and brought the rest of the team along with them. Despite the increased endeavour, OB still led by 2 goals at the final change.
Then enter Jon Mercuri. 2 mercuri-al goals and 1 chopped off OB switch from defence and the Xavs had hit the lead and sealed the win with an Agius goal late in the term.
The tackle count and endeavour was there - the conversion rate was not, so some goal kicking practice awaits on Tuesday night.
4 valuable points secured, but plenty of work to do as we turn our attention to Old Scotch this week at Camberwell Sports Grounds (that's right, they preferred to make money at the canteen at their home ground than continue the 6 year old tradition of playing eachother alternately at our school grounds after the school boys game..hard to believe really).
