IMPRESSIVE WIN
The seniors chalked up their 4th win for the season against respected rivals Uni Blues in a hard fought encounter at Toorak Park on Saturday.
A commanding performance by Biddlecombe on the Uni Blues skipper Lowcock set the tone for the day with the backline resolute and flexible in defence all day. Noonan and Ryan continued their impressive form as did Lynch, whilst the ever reliable Dynon played well and Mr Reliable himself - Brad Rogerson - was a welcome inclusion for his first game for the season.
The first quarter was an arm wrestle with a late goal to Shaw pretty much evening the ledger at quarter time.
Wynne was active early as were Colbert and Prowse in the midfield. Handley was well held so important contributions were to come from Wynne and Smith at half forward.
Prowse and Nicholson had an intriguing duel all day. The contest in the ruck too was an interesting one with Watts/Muhlebach taking on Purss/Shaw.
At the main break Xavs enjoyed a ten point lead - but had some work to do to shrug off the fast moving Uni Blues who were right in the contest.
The third quarter was an arm wrestle with the game still in the balance at 3 quarter time. However, a super impressive final term from the Xavs unfolded as the on ball brigade won the contested footy and distributed the ball well forward. Impressive goals from Handley and Smith got the ball rolling and Agius finished a classy display with his fourth and the game was won.
A very important four points for the boys as the top 4 starts to take some shape.
We now look forward to Old Brighton at Toorak Park this weekend in what is always a tough match up.
