BEAT THE BRINDISI BOYS
St Bede's have disposed of Xavs in its 2 prior engagements at Brindisi Street, and only lost 3 of 21 games in A Grade at their home ground - so to come away with the points on the weekend was a great result for the seniors and the Club. Hopefully it will be a real launching pad for the remainder of the season.
The lads got off to a slow start but managed to keep St Bedes to only 2 goals at the quarter time siren. This was telling, as St Bedes started the better and we made some bad mistakes in crucial parts of the ground early.
The boys rallied in the second with smart goals to L Smith, C Smith and J Stean who continued his solid opportunistic form. The midfield led the charge and the backs were resolute in defence as asked.
More of the same in the third quarter with Lynch marking everything down back and Ball and Darvell controlling the middle with great ruck work from Shaw and Purss. The lead at three quarter time was 30+.
St Bedes threw everything at us in the last and some steady heads were required to right the ship. Lynch was that man, with ample support from his fellow backmen. The final score being a ten point win....we'll take that. St Bedes will be a force in 2010 and will welcome the return of Groves, Collins and Anstey to that side. They are a great Club, well coached by Lalor (one of the good guys of the coaching fraternity) and well administered by Matt Beasley. It's always a pleasure to play at Brindisi Street. We look forward to the return bout.
We now turn our attention to Uni Blues who are in rampant form. It should be a huge game at Toorak Park next week against a side that always lifts to play Xavs. Get there.
