First win for 2010

Round:
2
Team:
Seniors
Opposition:
Old Trinity

Score: Old Xaverians: 22 – 19 – 151 def. Old Trinity: 8 – 6 - 54

The seniors notched their first win for 2010 with a 97 point thumping of Old Trinity on Saturday.

Jack Bowen did the honours of raising the 2009 Premiership flag at the Club’s first home game at Toorak Park for 2010. With the flag blowing in the stiff breeze to the High Street end, Lynch started well kicking 2 majors. Unfortunately the midfield dominance did not translate on to the scoreboard with the poor kicking of the forwards letting the side down. Some late goals restored some order to the scoreboard – the usual poor discipline of Kenna a contributing factor to that.
As the game wore on the margin increased. Purss continued to dominate in the ruck, whilst young guns Prowse, Mercuri and Noonan continued their fine form in their respective positions on ball and down back. The form of debutant Jack Stean was also pleasing – finishing the day with 4 goals.

Handley chimed in for 4 goals, whilst Dynon was again strong in defence and Howard in everything as usual.

With lots of room for improvement across all areas of our game, the Xavs now travel to Elsternwick Park to take on the dangerous Old Marcellin boys next Saturday at 2pm.
