A slow but promising start for the Old Xavs in 2010
Old Xaverians: 12 - 9- 81 lost to Collegians: 16 – 13 – 109 The seniors met a strong, disciplined and well drilled opponent in Collegians on the weekend – which was no surprise. Whilst we were in the game all day and at times had our chance to extend our lead, particularly in the third quarter, we were unable to and to Collegians credit they were far more efficient going forward and created better and more goal scoring opportunities. In the face of that delivery the backline stood tall, especially debutant Dan Noonan who worked hard all day, along with Damian Ryan and Tim Dynon who all played serviceable games. Esmond Prowse was strong on a wing and ran all day, whilst the midfield, although productive at times, were probably beaten in the end by a slick Collegians outfit that worked the ball forward more efficiently. The form of Mercuri was pleasing, likewise Chris Smith and Cam Purss – and as always Luke Howard worked tirelessly all over the ground. The seniors now turn their attention to Old Trinity in what is a must win encounter at Toorak Park.
