Second-Half Triumph at the Trott
Old Xaverians: 16 – 6 – 102 def. Collegians: 7 – 2 – 44
The old Xaverians reserves scored a tough first up win against Collegians last Saturday at the Trott winning by comfortable 8 goals.
The game was fast and exciting for those who, attending the first game of what will hopefully be a more successful 2010 for this young group!
Goals were few and far between in the first half until the young twos side kicked into gear late in the second term.
Matt Green back after a 6 year lay off started proceedings and looked likely in the absence of stalwart James McDonnell. Dan Rush was quiet early but showed what a good pre season has under his belt has done, kicking 7 solid goals.
Jack stean and Sam Lees stepped up from under age ranks and showed real class, something to look forward to in years to come. Also showing form early were the other young bucks in Julian Moylan, Hamish Buckley, Jack Davies and Ed Lachal who have come into senior ranks with relative ease.
Matt Walsh also another coming back to the club after some time off showed some hardness all over the ground as too Tim Agius.
The backline worked well all day with the help of premiership player Nick Dimattina. Brent coburn was another notable down back.
After half time the boys did what they had to do and showed that the pre season format has improved not only their individual fitness but skill levels have also increased.
Well done to all, great result with another big test against Trinity this weekend.
