DIRTY DAY

Reserves

Old Melburnians
Final Score:
Old Xavs: 3-12-30 OM's: 14-15-99

Was it the loss we had to have?  If so, it was a big loss and one that really put us back in the pack.  A game with so much on the line - top spot, one game clear and bragging rights going into the second half of the year!  Unfortunately the Old Xavs reserves played a little like the kids at Auskick a few hours prior.

The first quarter was a dour affair with the Sherrin going back and forward with both defences showing why they were the best.  Unfortunately the OM's used the ball better, worked harder and showed more patience when bringing the ball into their forward line.  Our backline came under fire and accounted well early.  But after quarter time our structures went south and the carrot that was dangled in front of us seemed not enough to inspire the lads back into the contest.

There were plenty of changes from last week but that is no excuse to what prevailed post half time.  One goal in a half of football is just not good enough from a team like this and something that will be looked at and worked on over the next fortnight.
At half time, the use of the meeting room sheltered some severe thoughts the coach had about what was happening out on our home ground.  Only a few goals down and playing the worst football of the year, the thought of getting back into the game was definitely there to grab back.  But the OM's showed us a disciplined game style and a willingness to work as a team not individuals trying to get a kick and win the game off their own boot.  Not that we were anywhere near it.

Not many winners on the day and the week off has come at the right time for some re building.

This needs to start as of Tuesday night.
