Round:

Team:
Reserves
Opposition:
Marcellin
Final Score:
Old Xavs: 22-18-150 Marcellin: 1-0-6

The Old Xavs Reserves side had a comprehensive win against a Marcellin team that seemed devastated by injury.

The first quarter started well enough but having a couple of spare opposition players to deal with in the forward line, made scoring tough.

It was a fairytale start forJohn Pasceri who, playing his 150th game for the club kicked the opening goal of the game. John has been a great player for this club since 2002 and has been a part of premierships in seniors and reserves over the journey, so well done Pash great effort! From that point on the boys started to hit their straps with Ed Lachal picking up the spare man in our forward line, intercepted well and goaled accordingly. As to our on ballers Liam Ginnivan and Stu Skidmore who both chimed in with a major each. Josh Hanger also got one early and things were looking good.

The second quarter was tame compared to the first and our use of disposal started to get a little untidy. Throughout the second and third quarter, the red leather was kicked all over the ground except through the big sticks. The backmen were kept relatively fresh, but the lads kept working hard, hitting the top of the square on numerous occasions until Josh Evens came on and made an instant contribution to the score as did Huw Davies and Dan Rush. The work rate increased and both wingmen kept repelling and using the run of Andy and Pete Ryan from half back. All in all a good three quarters in that we nullified our opposition to 0.0, something to be proud of going into the last quarter.

Coming into the final stanza, assistant coach Rush gave the order to set the boys for a 6 goal quarter and take some chances. This was adhered to and returned with interest as the young Xavs boys piled on 11 goals as well as playing some very impressive, hard hitting football.

Matt Skidmore showed his class on the expanses of Sportscover arena and gave the forwards endless opportunities all day. As too Pat Ambrose, Tim O'Meara and James Glen from half back. Nick Bye played his first game for the year after injury and showed why his tap work is revered by many, with Liam Ginnivan and Stu Skidmore reaping the rewards of having such a quality player in their midst.
The forward line kicked 16 of the 21 goals for the day and Dan Rush continued with another return of 6, Dan Molan 3, John Pasceri, Huw Davies, Ed Lachal and Liam Ginnivan 2 a piece with singles to, Hanger, Romanin, Evens and Ambrose.

Well done again, but still plenty of work to do as we come up against De La at the Dairy Bell this weekend.
