Two from two!

Round:
2
Team:
Reserves
Opposition:
Old Trinity

Scores: Old Xaverians: 19 – 9 – 123 def. Old Trinity: 10 – 7 – 67

The reserves outfit went into the game full of confidence from last week and wanted to really flex their muscles against the boys from Bulleen. Again, Matt Green kicked the first goal within minutes and the flood gates seemed to open up. It was a perfect day to kick the leather around and our boys started well, had control but let that slip halfway through the quarter and the T's hit back with a few very easy entries into their forward line.

The game started to go the way of Old Trinity for a while until Matt Walsh hit the packs hard in the middle and created opportunities for the forwards. Dan Rush is playing with some real confidence and kicked another 7 goals with ease. John Pasceri kicked 5 with countless other opportunities, and Liam Ginnivan and Matt Walsh snagging 2 each.

Captain Skidmore joined his team mates after playing all the preseason matches and Round 1 with the senior team. Skidder showed the mental and physical impact this young team needs to emulate going forward. Tim O'Meara gave the boys opportunities all day from the "John Bowen" wing and Huw Davies worked hard throughout the day.

Our defence was under fire most of the day and the young backline had plenty of work to do. Jack Davies worked hard all day, ran and broke the lines with confidence as too Andrew Oswald and Pete Ryan who provided plenty of opportunities all over the ground. Our young backline worked hard and we had some confident movement through Hamish Buckley, Ed Lachal and Brent Coburn.

It was great to see that our feeder team is working well and was able to provide three ready made players in Josh Hanger, James Glen and regular reservist in Shanks Ryan who has had an interrupted pre season.

After half time, Trinity again put some pressure on the boys but as was mentioned after the game, we responded when we had to and then put that pressure back on our opponent. Patty Myers kept his good form up with another great performance in the ruck as did Dan Higgins and Marcus Allan who showed some silky skills all day. Matt Skidmore hit the packs with some aggression as too his little cohort Tim Agius, again putting pressure on the opposition players throughout the game.

Some very good signs two rounds in but as is the case, we just take one week at a time!

Looking forward to a big game this weekend at VAFA headquarters against Marcellin, who showed some good form registering their first win against Old Brighton on Saturday.
