The Old Xavs reserves ticked another box last weekend in what was a huge boost coming into the finals.  The top four are all still on the same points but the percentage separates them all and this weekend’s games finally shaping the positions for week one of finals.

Within the first few minutes the coaching staff new we were on and two goals ensued as well as a couple of Old Scotch boys dropping into our forward line to say hello!  John Pasceri chimed in with an early 6 pointer as did nearly half the forward line.  It was just the start we wanted seeing percentage was not on our side.

Dustin Lloyd kept his great form up at CHF and put his body on the line all day.  Stu Skidmore again led the team with the’ in and under’ role he has had for so many years, while Josh Agius steamed in off the wing with ease to create options going forward.  But it was the younger Agius who sparked the boys with some furious delivery into the leading forwards setting up and scoring himself.  A great game for the young man who was starting to play with some real intensity prior to his injury.

At the break, the Xavs were up by a comfortable 5 goals and change.  The second quarter was even better kicking against a strong breeze, nulifying the redlegs to a few points while kicking 2 into it.  Matt Skidmore got off his death bed to take some strong marks and Tyson Lloyd created all day around the stoppages.  Tim O'Meara was buzzing around the wings and also created many opportunities.  James Ulbrick took the ruck work and shared with the Dragon for the day, both feeding Ginnivan, Agius's, Skidmore and Walsh throughout the day.  But it was the back line who defended and kept the Scotch boys goalless.

The third quarter was good as the Xavs tried to turn up the heat, but turn overs were costly.  The game started to fizzle out as both teams played some kick to kick but credit to the lads, with so many opposition players inside 50, it was difficult to say the least.  The final quarter we again asked for patience with our delivery and it finally came half way through the last when Skidmore (Matt) bobbed up for a sneaky goal.  The heat turned up a tad with countless opportunities but not many results.  But we finished off well and comprehensively out ran the boys from Camberwell.

In the end, a 80 point + win was a great result.

Special mention goes to all the backmen, Pete Ryan, Damo Ryan, James Glen, Shaun Langdon, Chris Coburn and Dan Higgins who as mentioned earlier were miserly all day.

Big week in football with our last home and away game v Brighton down at the beach.

Well done lads, Tick number 5 to come......
