The Ressies were primed after a big week on the track to take on the ladder leaders Uni Blues on what was a stock standard windy Elsternwick Park day.

Uni sprung out of the blocks with two early goals and it was this that kicked started the Xavs into gear. James Davies started the scoring for the Xavs with a left foot snap from the boundary and when the first siren went we found ourselves a kick behind the varsity.

The Xavs started the second quarter with a bang led by their illustrious leader Stu Skidmore and with a couple of majors from The forward live wire Dan Molan, the Xavs wrestled back the ascendancy to take a small lead into half time.

The bar was raised again in the third quarter with the midfield engine of Tyson and Dustin Lloyd, Chris Santalucia and Timmy Agius giving us drive out of the middle. Chris Smith was proving to be a strong target up forward and at the last change a win against the ladder leaders was in sight.

As the last quarter went on the Xavs stretched its lead out to as many as 26 points which is where the final margin ended. James Davies was again dominant out on the grandstand wing racking up possessions at will.

A great team effort is bandied around quite often but Saturday’s victory was exactly that.
