NOT GOOD ENOUGH
It was game of mixed fortunes for the Old Xaverian Reserves team on Saturday. The boys from the Dairy Bell came out of the blocks with a bang and kicked 5 goals to 2 in the first quarter, which was pretty the much the margin at full time!
I have to say that although we went down, the boys put in a really solid effort for 4 quarters. No excuses as we had probably more of the ball post quarter time, but just couldn't make a statement on the scoreboard. It's fair to say that this year's competition is very strong and in the coming weeks the reserves boys will start to ramp up and put some more consistent efforts together to stay in touch with the top sides.
We had some good performers all day in Huw Davies, Brent Coburn and in particular Pete Ryan and Tim O'Meara who are back from injury both presenting well all day. John Pasceri tried all day and nearly got us within a point in the last quarter, but De La Salle rebounded well and kicked a couple of late goals to blow us away. The backline was great and really held De La at bay for most part and Josh Douglas and Matt Skidmore ran all day on the wings.
Lots of work to do in the coming weeks and no bigger week than Saturday when we come up against Collegians at home.
