Down the Uni Boys!
A solid win for the Crocs against a strong University Blacks team. Fielding a side with 8 changes from the previous week through injury and the wedding of Matt O' Kane, with former coach Andrew Hall taking charge for the day, the Crocs started well. Loose kicking, fortunately confined to the first quarter saw it end with a scoreline of 4 goals 9 behinds to Uni Black's 1 goal. The score did not reflect the intensity and competitiveness of the game, in fact this was the case all day.
The second quarter was tight with the Crocs scoring a further 2 goals but keeping Uni to 2 behinds. Under the circumstances a good but not insurmountable lead at half-time of just over 5 goals - however by then a blustery wind favouring neither end had sprung up making conditions and scoring difficult giving the lead greater value. A 3 goal to 1 goal third quarter was also tight but the game was broken open with 4 Crocs goals in the latter half of the final quarter.
Positive signs for the Crocs with good teamwork an overall feature, but, in particular, effective defensive work restricting Uni to insufficient goals despite persistent and determined efforts.
