  • Successful Season

    2011 has been an extremely successful season for the Old Xavs. For the first time in the club's history 7 teams represented the club each weekend. The addition of the Thirds (Red) team who played in the Premier B Thirds competition meant an extra 40 players could play football.

    Of our 7 sides, all of them made finals. An amazing performance. Of the the 7, all bar the Senior side made their respective grand finals. Of the 6 grand finals, we won 4 Premiership. Our Premiership teams for 2011 are;

    • Thirds (Black) - Premier Thirds
    • Thirds (Red) - Premier B Thirds
    • Under 19 Premier
    • Under 19 2's - Under 19 South

    Our Reserves side, after a sensational season, went down to De La Salle in their grand final, and the Crocs were also beaten by De La in their grand final.

  • Junior Mc Joins GWS

    McDonald, 35 next month, has been coaxed into reviving his AFL career with Greater Western Sydney as a playing assistant coach.

    He has been talked into a hands-on role by Giants director of football, Graeme "Gubby" Allan, and coaches Kevin Sheedy and Mark Williams.

    "It's a bit of a unique one," McDonald said last night. "A playing-coaching role."

    McDonald has been mentoring the club's Melbourne-based players in a part-time role.

    He has kept fit playing for his original club, Old Xaverians, in the Victorian amateurs. He played in the team beaten by St Bedes/Mentone in the A grade preliminary final on Sunday.

    "'Gubby' asked me three or four months ago if I was keen to take it a step further with an on-field role.

  • Under 19's Create History

    The Old Xavs Under 19's, the Premier Division team, and the South Division team, have created history by winning their respective premierships.

    It has been a long time between drinks and with the recent dominance of De La Salle in the Premier Division, our boys, who have been the bridesmaids so many times over the last 5 years, turned the tables and beat De La in a disciplined and dominant performance. In windy conditions at Trevor Barker Oval in Sandringham, the team coached by Tom Maule got off to a great start and led at every break. Keeping their opponent to just the sole goal up unto 3 quarter time was a fantastic effort, and an indication of the pressure they were asserting on the dangerous De La.
