Under 19 Finals
The home and away season has come to and end for the Under 19’s with both teams not only making finals but finishing in the top two. Both sides making top two is a major feat and something that has never occurred in the clubs history.
The U19 Premier side was made to fight for their double chance with a tough round 18 game against SBMT down at Brindisi. However the boys in red and black returned to some of their early season form and came out comprehensive winners by 55 points in a dominant display. Well done to coach Tom Maule who has led the team fantastically over the course of the season and now has the chance to move straight into the big dance!! In what promises to be a great spectacle the two best U19 sides in Victoria over the past few years will go head to head on Sunday.
Year 12 Footballers Lunch
On Saturday the club played host and invited all Xavier College Year 12 footballers to Toorak Park for a special lunch to introduce them to the club.
Robert Ralph and club president Simon Hunt welcomed the boys and gave them an insight into the history of the club, and invited them all to be part of the club for season 2012.
Special guest speaker for the day was former Melbourne star Andrew Leoncelli. Andrew a former Xavier College student played a season for Old Xavs in 1995 before being drafted by Melbourne where he played over 100 games.
Coming back to the club were the college 1st XVIII coach, 2 time Old Xav premiership player Anthony McDonald, and his assistant, 6 time premiership player and Life Member Dan Richardson, and we welcomed Xavier College director of football Matthew Knights.
Crocs Grand Final This Sunday
This Sunday is the day on the calendar we have come to expect, the Crocs playing in the Club XVIII Grand Final. Many years ago, in his season opening address Andrew ‘Large Hawaiian’ Hall asked all at the club to mark in the diary the last Sunday in August for their Grand Final. He was quite confused by the laughter in the crowd!
The Crocs have once again had a sensational season. Two of the three games lost during the home and away season were to the OM’s Allstars who finished undefeated and on top of the ladder. This didn’t bother the boys in the green socks when it came time to play the 2nd Semi, and easily accounted for the boys from the Junction Oval. The Allstars went out in straight sets when they were outplayed by De La last week, and set up their rendezvous with the Crocs.
Where Are They Now? - Tim Hogan
Tim Hogan played for Old Xavs Reserves through two decades - the mid sixties to the mid seventies. Over the ten years Tim played well over one hundred games including being a member of the 1964 premiership Reserves side with Bill Carrol in the coaches box. Playing so many games, Tim played in most positions but performed best as a ruck rover. In 1973 Tim captained the Reserves side as well as serving as a club committeeman. His son Sam also played for Old Xavs U19’s.Lighthouse Foundation Pie Night
Please find attached an invitation to The Lighthouse Foundations inaugural Pie Night. Thanks to the generous support of many individuals and companies we have a wonderful event lined up!
We are thrilled to announce that we have Collingwood premiership players Luke Ball, Sharrod Wellingham and Travis Cloke and from the Essendon Football Club, captain Jobe Watson and Scott Gumbleton.
The players will be running a clinic with the kids in the first half of the afternoon and a Q&A in the second half. The Collingwood Football Club have very generously offered their facilities so the whole thing will take place at The Westpac Centre.
Crocs Into Grand Final
On Sunday, at Sportscover Arena, the Crocs beat OM's in their 2nd Semi Final and have won a spot in the Grand Final to be played on Sunday August 21st.
What a great start to the club's 2011 finals campaign.
The boys in red and black got off to a great start, and led at every break coming away winners by 10 points, 10-6-66 to OM's 8-7-55.
Nick Quinn was the major goal scorer with 3 goals and Dan Tehan was best on ground. Coach Andrew 'Roo' Nolen was suitably pleased with the performance, and with a week off to freshen up is very confident about their chances of going back to back.
