Where Are They Now? - Bryan Hayden
Surf’s Up!
A drowsy Bryan Hayden slips into his Speedos and heads to the surf beach at Torquay. Within minutes he’s battling the boomers, then back to the beach, a taste of brekie and soon he’ll be on his way to work.Hi ho, hi ho, it’s off to work he goes at Hayden Real Estate, the oldest existing business in Torquay. Apart from Torquay as HQ, Bryan also oversees branches on the Bellarine Peninsula and Surfcoast.
Bryan has to have the 'Best Job in the World' having lived and holidayed on the Surfcoast all of his life.
Prior to his sea change Bryan was a Melbourne boy and played 107 games with Old Xavs in both seniors and reserves over the period 1968 to 1972. Playing mainly as a rover, or in the back pocket he was notable as being the best turned out player on the park. He always looked immaculate even if it was a wet, scrappy game.
Alex Browne makes his AFL Debut
Alex Browne who last year completed his Year 12 studies at Xavier College, was picked to play his first AFL game for Essendon last Friday night against Melbourne. Recruited with selection 48 in last year's draft, Browne is a versatile half-backman who can also move into the midfield. His father Murray played for Collingwood in the 80's and went on to coach Marcellin to a VAFA A Grade Premiership. Alex was used as Essendons sub and managed to collect a couple of kicks and a handball. Well done to yet another Xaverian making his mark on the AFL.
