August 2010

  • Congratulations To Travis Ruyg

Congratulations from all at the OXFC to past champion and premiership player Travis Ruyg, the winner of the 2010 Feeny Medal for best and fairest in the senior competition of the north Central Football League.

This achievement was made even more extraordinary by Travis winning the medal with 20 votes from only 9 games this season, with Travis missing the middle part of the season whilst on his 8 week honeymoon to USA, Africa, and Europe.

This achievement comes as no surprise to all at the OXFC as Travis continues to work hard, train hard and dedicate himself to his performance at Donald FC, his hometown football club, where he always promised to return to play the final years of his career.

Congratulations Travis and good luck with your finals campaign at Donald this year!

  • Crocodiles Are Premiers!

After a wasteful first quarter, the Crocodiles played the windy Elsternwick Park conditions perfectly and won the Club XVIII Premiership for season 2010.
Kicking with the breeze in the first quarter the Crocs failed to score a major and with the Allstars kicking 2 goals into the wind, things were not looking good at the first break. OM's managed another 3 goals before half time and thankfully the Xav boys were able to kick a couple and went into the major break 15 point down.

  • Where are they now? Jake Richards

Past Old Xavs player Jake Richards, a member of the 2005 Menages side that won the Premiership, is currently studying in Sweden. While he is there Jake is also playing football in the local Australian football league.

  • 150 Games - Oliver Gidley

This week’s game against Old Melburnians sees Oliver Gidley play his 150th game for the club. Ollie’s character exemplifies the culture of the Old Xavs, and is a perfect example of why the club has been so successful over the last 15 years. Ollie has experienced great personal and team success as well as disappointment and his ability to always put the club first is something that has made him admired by team mates and supporters alike.
